Muti Revisited

Posted: 08.11.2005

So, today was another Muti rehearsal.  He did a piece by an Italian composer –

Goffredo Petrassi (1904-2003)
Coro di morti (1940/41)

This piece was really very interesting.  The orchestration was basically 3 pianos, basses, winds, brass, percussion, and chorus.  I was rather impressed with the piece.  And, Muti really conducted it well.  I also liked the way he did Brahms’ Schicksalslied.  (Songs of fate).  Maestro Muti really has a great sense of the voice.  (Of course!  He does so much opera).
