Vive la France!

Posted: 12.30.2005

So, I know that yesterday I said that I would talk about Ives, but I think instead I will talk about my trip back into Paris.  I arrived at Charles De Gaulle Airport around 11:30AM.  It took about an hour and a half to two hours before I got out of the airport.  I guess a number of planes had arrived at the same time since I had to wait in line for quite a while to get a ticket (and a carnet = 10 Metro tickets) into Paris.  I was lucky to get a direct train from Charles De Gaulle to Gare du Nord (as opposed to having to stop at all the stations on the way.  I highly recommend waiting the extra 10 minutes for the direct train as it will save you MUCH more than the 10 minutes.)  So, by this point I was exhausted and cranky.  As the train pulls out of the station in the airport, I suddenly see why things have been so wonderfully delayed.  It was snowing.  I have to admit that it was a rather beautiful ride into Paris with the snow coming down.  (Though I think it would have been fun to share it with someone.)  It was beautiful to watch the snow covering everything while sitting in the RER for the 25 minute ride to Paris.  I have to admit that I was far less cranky when I got to Gare du Nord than when I got on the train at the airport.  Granted, when I got out of the metro and had to trudge through the snow to Julien’s apartment, I can’t say that it was all that fun.  It took about an hour and fifteen minutes to get to Julien’s apartment.  I get there to find that the Gardien (the doorman) was on break, so I had to wait two hours in the really cold lobby before he came back and gave me the key that Julien had left.  Finally, I got everything squared away and I went to dinner at my favorite Indian restaurant, Gandhi-Jis.  I ended up getting back to the apartment and basically collapsing.  I was exhausted.
