On the Road Again!
Posted: 01.21.2006
Not a lot of time to write because I leave in a few hours for the airport to go to New York City for the Kurt Masur seminar at the Manhattan School of Music. The concert went quite well. The orchestra played with the spirit of the piece. (Next time we’ll work on the spirit of the piece and a bit better intonation), but it’s always been my view that the public prefers to hear a concert played by an orchestra that has something to say as opposed to an orchestra that plays technically perfectly, and for that, I am proud of the Midland/Odessa group. They were on fire musically, and it was a joy to work with them. They turned it on in the concert, and they turned it up a few levels. I was truly proud of them. The after concert reception was amazing. I have to admit that in the hubbub, I didn’t even have time for any of the Indian food that they had catered specifically for the event. That was disappointing. I did have a chance to see a lot of friends, neighbors, and concert fans, and that was great. (My best friend from college also came up from Houston specifically for the concert.) Unfortunately, this has led to a true lack of sleep!
