A lot of music and some merry pranks...

From the New World back to the New World
James Norman - Regatta
John Corigliano - Elegy
Carlos Chavez - Symphony No. 2, "Sinfonia India"
Intermission
Antonin Dvorak - Symphony No. 9, "New World"
It should be an exciting time! I think it's great that the orchestra is so excited about doing these pieces, and I think the audience is really going to love the Dvorak.
I am also in the Eduardo Mata competition during the second week of September 2007.
Talk about a lot of great repertoire! For that, I have to learn the following:
Mozart - Magic Flute, Overture
Strauss - Till Eulenspiegel
Revueltas - Janitzio
Round 2:
Beethoven - Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor"
Ravel - Concerto in G
Shostakovich - Piano Concerto No. 2
Round 3:
Schumann - Symphony No. 3, "Rhenish"
Brahms - Symphony No. 3
Franck - Symphony in d-minor
Chavez - Horse Power Suite, "The Tropics"
Then, we have the production at Bayou Bend to look forward to. It's an exciting month. I've been spending some time on Till Eulenspiegel lately. There is so much detail in the score that it's mind boggling. (Granted, most of Strauss' scores have an insane amount of detail). His music is incredibly thought out. If you follow the dynamics strictly as Strauss wrote, for the most part, everything is going to be heard. Nothing really needs to be "helped." It's as motivically detailed as anything by Beethoven. I'll write more about the music I'm working on soon.
