Nova Arts Project - Love Loves a Pornographer

Posted: 04.10.2008

So, this evening, I went to see Nova Arts Project's Love Loves a Pornographer. (Get your minds out of the gutter; it's a LEGITIMATE theater piece). A quick bit of disclosure: Clinton Hopper, artistic director of Nova Arts Project, will be directing Soldier Songs during the 2008 Opera Vista Festival.

Lauren and I really enjoyed this piece. (Second disclosure: Neither Lauren nor I is a theater critic, so take my own review with a grain of salt.)

"If you live in Houston, you should see this play!"

The piece is a pseudo period piece. It's sort of a Victorian parlor play but with a bunch of fun anachronisms. (Earl Kant being the funniest. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it just means that you need to see the play). The pacing of the opera was driven by the sheer number of words in each line! It was a true feat of memorization for the actors to learn them. (I'm assuming - given that I have never really acted).

Nova Arts project is a group that impresses me. They have really gone far in the time they've been in Houston. I'm hoping that Opera Vista can mimic their success. If you live in Houston, you should see this play!
